Biography

Umang Sharma is a technologist, entrepreneur, and social impact innovator passionate about assistive technology, AI, and global education access. He is the founder of Jdable, a nonprofit building breakthrough tools for people with disabilities, and a student at Princeton Day School (Class of 2026).

As Founder & CEO of Jdable, Umang leads a global nonprofit that designs and distributes affordable, high-impact assistive technologies. Jdable has directly supported more than 1,000 people with disabilities and reached 100,000+ individuals worldwide through its devices, events, and outreach. Flagship innovations include the patented low-cost Braille keyboard (reducing the cost from $7,000 to under $10), autonomous navigation wheelchairs, IoT smart canes, and 3D-printed tactile globes and learning kits. Umang’s work on the IoT smart cane was featured in a publication hosted by MIT, highlighting his novel integration of IoT, GPS, and haptic feedback for visually impaired mobility.

His research project, Recompose: Cognitive Composting, combining Intel RealSense depth sensing, Raspberry Pi systems, and behavioral psychology, has been published and demonstrated a 37% reduction in cafeteria food waste during pilot trials. This project earned him recognition at the Mercer Science and Engineering Fair, where it received a prize for innovation and impact.

In addition to Jdable, Umang founded PC-Workshop.org, an initiative that brings technology education to underserved students. Through workshops and lab setups in India and the U.S., PC-Workshop has taught 300+ students directly and impacted over 1,000 learners through six additional programs, empowering young people to explore coding, robotics, and computer literacy. Umang is also a research intern at Tufts University IDEA Labs, where he contributes to multisensory VR platforms that translate head movement into spatialized audio-visual experiences. He previously attended the Harvard Secondary School Program, studying robotics, AI, and autonomous systems.
