[1]The Sukhe Tribe, also known as the Hakiman or Hakims of Ghizer, is one of the prominent and historically significant tribes of Ghizer District in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The tribe has long-standing roots in the Phander Valley, Chashi, Shamaran, Pingal, Yasin Valley, and parts of Chitral.
History
The Sukhe tribe traces its lineage to early local rulers of the Ghizer region, traditionally referred to as Hakims. The title “Hakim” denoted the administrative authority. Historically, the Hakim of Ghizer governed a wide territory stretching from Gilgit-Baltistan to Chitral.
According to local oral traditions, one of the early Hakims, Suko, established his family’s influence in Phander. His descendants continued to play important administrative and military roles in regional politics.
The Hakim lineage continued through several generations, maintaining its local authority and influence in the Ghizer region. The last known Hakim of Ghizer, Muhammad Yakut Shah, was a descendant of Rahmat and passed away in the late 20th century, marking the end of the traditional Hakimate system in the region.
