Rozel Ahmed (born 31 October 1998) is a Bangladeshi sports commentator known for his English and Bangla cricket commentary across radio, livestream competitions, domestic leagues, and several international tournaments. Before moving into media, he played as a top-order batsman and wicketkeeper in local and divisional cricket circuits.

Early life

Rozel grew up in Mymensingh, where cricket became a central part of his childhood. His mother, Rozey Aktar, encouraged his interest early on, crafting his first improvised bat when he was two years old. He spent most of his school years playing cricket in local grounds, forming a strong circle of mentors and teammates as his family moved from place to place for his father’s government service.

Education

Rozel began his schooling at Ammatul School before transferring to Ananda Path School and later Holy Soul Kindergarten. He earned admission to Mymensingh Zilla School, where he consistently performed well academically and built a reputation as both a student leader and a passionate cricketer.

He completed his JSC and SSC exams with GPA-5 results, ranking in the district talent pool both times. After finishing HSC at Ananda Mohan College with another GPA-5, he aimed for public universities. After several attempts and shifting his academic focus, he was accepted into the Economics Department at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), completing both BSS and MSS degrees with first-class results.

Cricket background

Although Rozel’s potential in cricket was evident from his school years, strict academic expectations at home limited his training opportunities. He briefly joined a coaching program under physical education teacher Shah Masum, but the commitment was cut short due to family restrictions.

After several stops and starts, he resumed structured training in 2015, playing in local leagues including the Mymensingh 1st Division Cricket League and later participating in university tournaments. His performances in the Inter-Department Cricket Championship at BUP and in the Last Man Stands league helped him reconnect with competitive cricket.

Commentary and media career

Rozel entered sports commentary in 2018 through Last Man Stands Bangladesh, quickly earning a place as an official commentator for multiple domestic and international LMS events. His energetic presentation style and clear cricket analysis opened doors to radio, beginning with ABC Radio 89.2 FM during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he contributed to Bangla commentary segments.

From 2019 to 2020, he worked as a sports host at ABC Radio and continued as a lead commentator for LMS Bangladesh. He later joined Radio Bhumi FM 92.8, expanding his coverage to university tournaments, corporate leagues, and national-level events.

His breakthrough came with T Sports, where he contributed to high-profile tournaments including:

  • Bangabandhu Four Nations Physically Challenged T20 Cricket Tournament
  • Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League
  • Corporate and franchise-based T20 events
  • Badminton Stars Challenge
  • Hockey Champions Trophy Bangladesh

Rozel also worked as a presenter for player auctions at the BGMEA Cup and commentated on boxing events such as South Asian Pro Boxing Fight Night. On 31 March 2024, he made his international cricket commentary debut during the Australia Women’s Tour of Bangladesh.
