Mateo Attalla (born 18 August 1992) is an Australian entrepreneur and athlete. He is the founder of BOXR, one of the leading fitness lifestyle facilities based out of Miami. Attalla is a multi-award-winning pro boxer with amateur boxer who has been a national champion five times and bagged multiple medals. During his pro boxing career, Attalla was a sparring partner for world champions such as Brian Viloria, and Gairy St. Clair.

Attalla is regarded as one of the fastest-growing entrepreneurs in Miami for successfully leading the success of BOXR. The facility, as of 2023, has over 1000 members including influencers, top entrepreneurs, and other prolific people spanning various industries, such as Evander Holyfield, Steve Stoute, Debo Samuel, Shannon Briggs, Andre Berto, Dj Swearinger, Floyd Mayweather, and Jake Paul, to name a few.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Attalla was born on 18 August 1992 to Steven Attalla and Dona Alexander who lead Australia’s leading export and import manufacturing company called Attalla International. Their company was also contracted to manufacture apparel and toys for the Olympic Games in Australia. Attalla’s father was also a Rugby player and his mother was a distinguished professional in the design and architecture industry.[1]

Attalla, at an early age, developed a keen understanding of running a business - learning from his parents as well as started taking boxing classes to hone his skills as an athlete. Attalla was trained by some of the best trainers in the world like Coach Alton Merkinsons, Jason Ingwaldson, and Russia’s elite boxing Coach Mikhail (Maha) Shermat.[2]

Attalla started his professional career as a boxer in the early 2000s and during his peak athlete years, he became 4x Australian Amateur Boxing Champion, and 5X National Boxing Champion apart from winning multiple boxing championships.[3]

Attalla launched BOXR in 2020 in a 1,200-square-foot specialized boxing gym out of his apartment. The gym outgrew the condo after a few months, so he relocated it to an empty space inside a nearby Miami gym. From 2021 to 2022, Attalla expanded the BOXR brand alongside Cami Hoyos (co-founder of BOXR), offering gym patrons a distinctive boxing experience by incorporating 15+ years of boxing experience.[4]

In April 2022, BOXR launched its first 30,000-square-foot workout center. Since then, BOXR has attracted the best athletes, business owners, artists, and influencers in the globe as its members.[5]

Later that year, as an addition to the current BOXR facility, Attalla purchased CrossFit Downtown Miami, Making BOXR Miami's largest lifestyle and fitness complex. This facility has more than 50,000 square feet of workout space, gym equipment, a barbershop, a rehabilitation center, a protein smoothie bar, a basketball court, two boxing rings, an MMA cage, and a simulator for the Formula One race.[6]
