Kipley Lytel is an American economist, speaker, and author. He is the founder of Montecito Capital Management, a fee-only Registered Investment Advisory firm based in California. He has worked in institutional-grade asset management, macro-driven investment strategy, and advanced portfolio construction since the early 2000s, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Education
Lytel earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University, where he was a Fellowship Scholar. He also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at The Claremont Colleges.
Career
Before founding Montecito Capital Management in 2004, Lytel held senior investment roles at multi-billion dollar institutional asset management firms, where his work involved quantitative research, portfolio construction, and risk management.[1][2]
He founded Montecito Capital Management in 2004. The firm operates as a fee-only fiduciary advisory practice and provides portfolio management and financial planning services to clients in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. The firm has been listed by various financial and business publications, including Forbes, Barron’s, and The Wall Street Journal. In 2025, Lytel and the firm were featured in the International Business Journal and were recognized in Forbes as 10 Most Dependable Wealth Managers in Southern California.[3][4]
Lytel has been quoted in financial media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Bloomberg News, and Financial Planning. He has also spoken at finance conferences and universities on topics related to portfolio design and capital markets.
Personal life
Lytel participates in community and service activities in California. He is a founding member of the Sous-Commanderie de Santa Barbara of the Confrérie de Chevaliers du Tastevin. He is married to Diana Lytel, a defense attorney and former president of ASCDC, who was recognized as Attorney of the Year in 2024 for Santa Barbara, California.[5]
