John W. DenBoer is an American sports psychologist and media personality known for his work in dementia awareness. He is the creator and subject of the 2019 documentary film This Is Dementia.[1] Through his films and public speaking, DenBoer advocates for preventative brain training and education regarding cognitive decline.[2]
Background
Before his work in media, DenBoer trained as a clinical neuropsychologist. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Montana and completed his residency at Barrow Neurological Institute.[3]
Career
DenBoer moved into the public spotlight with the release of This Is Dementia. The documentary, which was released on Netflix, follows DenBoer as he explores the pathology of the disease, partly driven by his desire to understand his own genetic predisposition to the condition.[4][5]
In addition to his film work, DenBoer is a public speaker on the topic of brain health. In 2017, he delivered a TEDx presentation titled "Disrupting Dementia," which outlined methods for mitigating the effects of aging on the brain.[6] He has been interviewed by various outlets, including *Newsweek* and *Forbes*, regarding his approach to cognitive innovation.[7]
