Early Life and Education

Hong Wai Onn was born and raised in Ipoh, a city in Perak, Malaysia, known for its limestone caves, mountains, and culinary heritage. He grew up in a small family and pursued his higher education at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering. Later, he obtained an Executive MBA with Honours from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Career

Hong began his professional career in the palm oil industry, initially working with Genting Plantations. With over 15 years of experience, he has held roles spanning production, engineering, project management, applied research, process safety, and leadership within the palm oil and biotechnology sectors. His work focuses on leveraging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to enhance industrial processes and promote environmental sustainability, particularly through circular economy principles and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.
