Grimace - is a cryptocurrency that originated from an Internet meme and has some other humorous characteristic related to McDonald's mascot returned in public on 2022.[1]

In late 2013, Dogecoin was released after

being created as a joke on the Doge meme by software engineers. This sparked the creation of several subsequent meme coins. Most of them was based on Ethereum blockchain, DogeChain or Binance Smart Chain. The memecoin, referencing purple mascot called Grimace shaped like a tastebud, parodied an earlier request by Elon Musk during a light-hearted Twitter exchange. The Tesla founder tweeted that he would “eat a happy meal on TV” if McDonald’s accepted Dogecoin as a payment. Then the McDonalds's company responded with a picture of their popular mascot with the caption: “Only if Tesla accepts grimacecoin. In beginning 2022, Grimace has started as a cryptocurrency on centralized and decentralized exchanges such as MEXC and Bitget.[2][3][4][1]

Popularity[edit | edit source]

Meme coins have surged in popularity since Elon Musk endorsed the use of Dogecoin, one of the first meme coins.[5] He continues to post tweets about Dogecoin in 2022, including one in January where he stated he would eat a Happy Meal from McDonald's on live TV if they started accepting Dogecoin as payment.[6][7][8] The project was organized many culture and charity events around on-line community and random people on the streets. Most active part of the community based in CIS and North America regions.[9][10][11]
