Dubai
Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the country. Located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is known for its modern architecture, luxury shopping, ultramodern skyline, and vibrant nightlife.
History
Dubai was established as a small fishing and trading village in the early 18th century. In 1833, the Al Maktoum family led by Maktoum bin Butti took control of the settlement. Over the years, Dubai developed into an important port city, attracting traders from across the region.
The discovery of oil in 1966 marked a turning point in Dubai's economic and social transformation. Although oil contributed significantly to the city's growth, Dubai has since diversified its economy into sectors like trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services.
Geography
Dubai is situated on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Abu Dhabi to the south, Sharjah to the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman to the southeast. The city is known for its desert climate with hot summers and mild winters.
Economy
Dubai's economy is driven by trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services. The city is home to several of the world's largest and most iconic developments, including:

- Palm Jumeirah — a man-made archipelago shaped like a palm tree
Although oil once contributed to the economy, it currently accounts for less than 1% of Dubai’s GDP.
