Dr. Russel Surasky

Russell Surasky (born July 6, 1981) is an American neurologist and addiction medicine physician. He is board-certified in both neurology and addiction medicine and serves as Medical Director at Bridge Back to Life, a substance use treatment program in New York. Surasky practices clinical neurology at Neurological Specialties of Long Island, a member of Northwell Health Physician Partners, and is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.[1] He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN) and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM). Surasky has provided medical commentary on national media networks including Fox News, Fox Business, and NewsNation.

He is the author of the 2024 book This Book Will Save Your Life, published by Simon & Schuster, which explores non-opioid strategies for addiction treatment. The book features a foreword by Dr. Drew Pinsky and was endorsed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

Education and medical training

Surasky earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. He completed an internal medicine internship at Mount Sinai Queens Hospital Center and a neurology residency at North Shore University Hospital.[2]

Career

Surasky practices clinical neurology at Neurological Specialties of Long Island, a Northwell Health practice, and serves as Medical Director at Bridge Back to Life, where he integrates non-opioid-based treatment strategies for addiction.[3] He is frequently consulted by other physicians for complex neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

Media coverage and public commentary

Surasky has been featured as a medical expert in national media. In July 2024, he appeared on Fox News’s Cavuto Live to assess President Biden’s cognitive health following a presidential debate,[4] and was quoted in The Hill regarding the ethics of diagnosing public figures under the Goldwater Rule.[5] He also appeared in The Economic Times analyzing cognitive signs associated with vascular dementia and Parkinson’s disease.[6]

In January 2025, Surasky was featured on America Reports on Fox News, discussing the neurological risks of wildfire smoke exposure.[7] That same year, he was interviewed on the podcast Conversation with Cardinal Dolan to discuss his book and approach to addiction treatment.[8]

In 2024, he was quoted in a Fox News article discussing cannabis-related mental health risks among young adults.[9] Surasky also appeared in a NewsNation report on Adderall shortages and stimulant overuse in adolescents.[10]
