Hwang Ye-ji (born May 26, 2000), known professionally as Yeji, is a South Korean dancer and singer.[1] She is the leader of Itzy, a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2019.[2]

Early life

Yeji was born in Seoul, South Korea but raised in the southwestern city of Jeonju.[2] She started dancing in fifth grade and later took the dancing talent serious in eighth grade.[1]

Career

Yeji officially started her dancing career when she went back to Seoul in 2015.[1] In December 2015, she auditioned for JYP Entertainment as a trainee.[3] She spent 3 years training at JYP Entertainment before debuting in 2019 as a dancer and the leader of Itzy.[2]

Later in 2017, Yeji debuted for the first time as a guest on Stray Kids along her group mates.[4] In 2018, she appeared on the South Korean competition show The Fan, where she ranked first on the South Korea search engine; Naver.[5]

On March 19, 2021, Yeji became the 5th artist/dancer to appear in the Studio Choom series, Artist of The Month, covering River (Bishop Briggs song).[6]

In 2022, Yeji, along with Ryujin, participated on a remix of Bebe Rexha's 2022 single Break My Heart Myself, released on July 29.[7] In November 2023, Yeji, alongside bandmate Chaeryeong, appeared as mentors on the SBS reality survival series Universe Ticket.[8]

In May 2023, Yeji featured on the cover page of Elle Korea magazine along side Felix from Stray Kids.[9] Early in 2024, Yeji unveiled her solo debut track Crown On My Head as part of ITZY’s BORNT TO BE album.[10]
