Space Glider is a fictional character from the Micronauts series introduced in 1976. He is depicted as a heroic character.

Micronauts[edit | edit source]

Space Glider was a character in the Micronauts series. The depiction of Space Glider has varied vastly from one fictional setting to another.

Development[edit | edit source]

Space Glider was released by Mego in several colors in 1976. He was also released by Gig and Pin Pin Toys.

According to Bryan Wilkinson on Facebook, one concept considered by Palisades Toys for Space Gliders was including stickers which would denote if he was the captain of a Battle Cruiser or Mobile Exploration Lab.

In 2002 Palisades toy released Space Glider in new colors.

Concept art for a new version of Space Glider was done by Dave Waugh as part of Palisades wave 3, although the figure was never produced.^[1]

In late 2004 Micronauts was licensed to SOTA Toys to make Micronauts. They planned to produce a line of stylized 6 inch figures under the name Micronauts Evolution, including a Space Glider. A hand painted prototype of Space Glider was displayed at Toy Fair New York City 2005, but because of legal issues with Takara the toys were delayed and never released.^[2]

In 2007 Hasbro released the Hasbro Revolution box set. This set included a tiny female Space Glider figure.

In 2018 several parts for Space Glider were released on Shapeways by Mathew Robert Ignash.

The unreleased SOTA Toys Baron Karza and Space Glider figures appeared on the cover of the April 2005 issue of Tomart's Action Figure Digest.

The character of Bug was loosely based on the green Space Glider figure and often wore a glider pack as well.

Marionette also often wore a glider pack based on Space Glider.

Commercials[edit | edit source]

Acroyear, Galactic Warrior, Space Glider and Time Traveler appeared in a 1976 Mego commercial together.^[3]

Biotron, Space Glider and Hydro Copter appeared in a 1976 Mego commercial together.^[4]

Space Glider shared a 1977 commercial with Acroyear, Acroyear II, Andromeda, Baron Karza, Force Commander, Galactic Defender, Oberon and Pharoid.^[5]

Baron Karza and four different color Space Gliders appeared in the 1978 The World Of Micronauts board game by Milton Bradley.

Mego Micronauts Space Glider (1976)

A recolor of the Microman Super Steel M210x figure.

Comes with a helmet and wing pack.

This figure was released in 3 color variants: Blue, green and gold. All versions of Space Glider came with a blue helmet.

The blue release of Space Glider inspuired the character of Braxxon.

The glider pack was reused on Art Hobby Flight Commander.

A release of the Mego toy in France with English/French language packaging by Pin Pin Toys.

Palisades Micronauts Space Glider Preview (2002)

Released by Hero Factory. Limited to 1000 pieces.

Features a remolded head to fit inside the helmet better.

In addition to the helmet and wing pack, comes with a rifle and stand.

Comes in four color variants: Blue/black, green/silver, red/silver and silver/yellow. Came with a helmet that matched their color scheme. These figures were produced in equal numbers and shipped together in a case.

SOTA Toys Micronauts Evolution Space Glider (unreleased)

Hasbro Revolution (2017)

A box set of figures appearing in the Hasbro stories by IDW Publishing comics.

Includes tiny figurines of classic characters of Acroyear, Baron Karza and Biotron. There is an Antron called Xant, a female Space Glider named Phenelo-Phi, a Time Traveler named Quin-Tillus and new characters using the classic Micronauts names Oberon, Betatron and Gammatron.

Several parts for Space Glider are available on Shapeways.
