SM Farhad is a Bangladeshi student leader and the current General Secretary (GS) of the DUCSU.[1][2] He has also been serving as the President of the Islami Chhatra Shibir Dhaka University branch since January 2025.[3][4][5]

Early life and education

SM Farhad completed his Dakhil from Maini Gathachhara Baytush Sharaf Madrasa in Rangamati. Later, he passed Alim from Baytush Sharaf Madrasa in Chattogram. He was admitted to the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at the University of Dhaka in the 2017–18 academic session.[6]

Activism

SM Farhad was a leader of the Dhaka University Debating Society. He was a resident student of Jasimuddin Hall and served as a leader of the Jasimuddin Hall Debating Club. He was also a leader of the Hill Tracts Students’ Council and Hill Society.[7]

2025 DUCSU election

In the 2025 DUCSU election, he contested for the post of General Secretary (GS) from the United Students' Alliance.[8] He ran as the GS candidate of the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed United Students' Alliance panel. In the election held on 9 September, the results announced the next morning confirmed his victory. He received 10,794 votes, defeating his nearest rivals Hamim (5,283 votes) and Meghmallar Basu (4,949 votes).[9]
