Remoov
Remoov, Inc. is a San Francisco–based, tech-enabled service that picks up second-hand household and office items and then resells, donates, or recycles them. Customers receive a share of proceeds for items that are sold, while unsellable items are donated (with receipts) or diverted from landfill through recycling partners. The company operates in the San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix and Los Angeles and operates its showrooms/marketplaces under the Reperch brand (formerly The Local Flea).
History
Remoov was founded by Luis Perez; the company says it launched in San Francisco in 2016 and later opened its first expansion market in Phoenix in 2020.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Remoov pivoted more heavily to clearing vacated offices in the Bay Area, a shift covered by the San Francisco Business Times in 2021.
Business model and services
Remoov collects mixed lots of items from homes and offices after customers submit photos for an estimate. It resells items via consignment or auction (customers receive 50% of the selling price), donates others with receipts to charities, and sends remaining items to recycling or decommissioning facilities. The company notes that it does not purchase items outright; sales occur via its own marketplace/showrooms and other resale channels.
SFGATE described Remoov’s San Francisco warehouse (then branded The Local Flea) and reported that the firm “turns a profit by gutting and reselling fixtures from shuttered offices,” while explaining the basic 50/50 consignment split.
Association with Reperch
Reperch is Remoov’s consumer marketplace and showroom brand for second-hand furniture and home goods. In March 2023, Remoov announced it had acquired the assets of Reperch. Following the acquisition, Remoov consolidated its retail presence under the Reperch name; the former The Local Flea site now redirects with a rebrand notice.
Reperch operates showrooms tied to Remoov’s pickup markets, including locations in San Francisco (2415 17th St) and Phoenix (1015 N 21st Ave).
Operations and expansion
Remoov’s core service areas include the San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
Partnerships and initiatives
In May 2022, Remoov announced a collaboration with Welcome.US to channel donated goods from clients to Afghan and Ukrainian newcomers resettling in the United States.
