Pharoid is a fictional character from the Micronauts series introduced in 1977. He is depicted as a heroic character.

Fictional biography

Pharoid and his sarcophagus-like Time Chamber merge super-science and ancient technology, reminding us of legends about alien visitors meeting ancient earth civilizations. His intricate detail and high-tech design fired imaginations young and old. Pharoid lacked weapons in the 1970's, but now arrives in a new century armed with a new Scarab Blaster and interchangeable Chrono-Wings!

Animated series

Pharoid appeared in a segment on Robot Chicken.

Comics

Pharoid has appeared several times in comic form from different writers. Each depiction of Pharoid is vastly different.

1979 Marvel Comics

Pharoid in the Marvel Comics Micronauts stories had little resemblance to the toy.

Prince Pharoid was the ruler of Aegypta, a desert region on Homeworld. He was an ally of the Micronauts and an admirer of Lady Slug.

Time Chambers appeared as caskets of the first lords of Aegypta in issue 24.

In "Last Stand in Fantasy-World!" Reptos participate in Baron Karza's fleet which attacks Homeworld. A Repto is seen defeated by Prince Pharoid.

Pharoid was eventually killed by Baron Karza.

When Marvel lost the license to Micronauts it included losing the rights to Pharoid, and he has not appeared again the Marvel Universe.

2003 Image Comics

Pharoid appeared in the Micronauts series by Image Comics.

2016 IDW Publishing

When a Pharoid temple was occupied by militants, Baron Karza and Red Falcon led a battalion of Acroyears on a rescue mission. At the battle's conclusion, Karza received a cryptic warning from one of the dying militants, before discovering Red Falcon inside the heart of the temple, communing with five Time Travelers. The Emperor's son returned home with claims that the Travelers, part of a Pharoid sect said to have transcended time itself, had shown him the future, and that by seeking their counsel he alone could guide the empire on the right path.

After flying into the Cloud, the Micronauts were attacked by Reptos, a race of beings previously thought destroyed by the cloud. Seeing that the Reptos survived, Oz was excited to return home with the news that Microspace wasn't doomed. With the Reptos destroy tearing up the Heliopolis, Oz told Microtron to destroy the ship if he had to, something which proved unnecessary after the crew was saved by the mysterious Time Traveler.

Several days into their journey, while tracking a mysterious energy source, the Micronauts received a message from Baron Karza. Karza told them that though it had only been a few days for them inside the storm, years had passed for him after he followed them into the cloud. Microtron then informed Oz that he discovered the source of the energy he detected earlier, which also happened to be the source of Karza's signal. Upon seeing the source of the energy, Oz struggled to comprehend what he was looking at. Karza explained that he was looking was the birthplace of Microspace: the body of Micronus Prime.

Issue 5 of the IDW Publishing Micronauts series featured a picture on the cover of Oziron Rael with the second version of the grey Mego Time Chamber.

Commercials

Microtron and Pharoid appeared in a 1977 Mego toy commercial together.

Toys

• Mego Micronauts Pharoid with Time Chamber (1977)

A recolor of Microman Command 2 series. Came in 3 color variants, blue, grey and red. Came with two winglets and a Time Chamber.

Initial releases of the Time Chamber featured with words "Microman Command" in Japanese, but later releases features symbols.

The Time Chamber was released as the Cosmic Warp Chamber.

The Time Chamber of Pharoid was to be reused on the unreleased Palisades toy Anuboid.

A release of the Mego toy in Italy by Gig.

• Lion Rock Pharoid

A release of Pharoid by Lion Rock that came without a Time Chamber, but had a back connector.

• Pin Pin Toys Micronauts Pharoid with Time Chamber

A release of the Mego toy in France by Pin Pin Toys.

• Palisades Micronauts Pharoid (2003)

4 different color variants were released. Included the original two winglets and Time Chamber, but added two larger wings, rifle and stand.

The Time Chamber included was similar to the remold released by Mego.

• Hasbro Micronauts Classic Collection (2016)

A SDCC 2016 exclusive box set containing a green plastic Galactic Warrior, a grey Orbital Defender and blue Pharoid with two winglets and Time Chamber.

The Time Chamber featured the original Japanese writing.

Features art by Ken Kelly. The box art for Pharoid features him wearing the Microman Command 1 wings, which were not part of this set.
