National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" (NTU "KhPI"; Template:Lang-uk) is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical universities in Ukraine. It is located in Kharkiv, the second-largest city in the country. Founded in 1885 as the Kharkiv Practical Technological Institute, it has played a pivotal role in the scientific, industrial, and technological development of Ukraine and the wider region.
History
The university was established in 1885 under the name Kharkiv Practical Technological Institute. It was one of the first institutions in the Russian Empire designed to train engineers and industrial professionals. Among its founders was prominent Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, and one of the first directors was Victor Kyrpychov.
Over the decades, the university has undergone several name changes:
- 1923 – Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (KhPI)
- 1994 – Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute"
- 2000 – National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute"
