iSafe BD (Bengali: আইসেফ বিডি) is a Bangladesh-based digital safety platform and mobile application that provides tools for child protection, cyberbullying reporting, and youth mental health support.[1] The platform integrates a Children Missing Alert System, confidential cyberbullying reporting channels, real-time support chat, and access to counselling and helpline services.
About
iSafe BD is designed to accelerate community and institutional responses to missing-child incidents, provide confidential channels for reporting online harassment, and connect vulnerable young people with mental-health resources and professional counselling. The application is promoted through awareness campaigns, seminars, ambassador programmes, and partnerships with local organisations.[2]
History and development
iSafe BD was developed as part of a youth-led initiative to address rising concerns about online harassment, cyberbullying, and child safety in Bangladesh.[3] Internal project documentation and promotional materials list Zubayer Ahmed among the development team. Since its launch the platform has been publicised through local and national news outlets and community events, and the project team has sought partnerships with government units, NGOs, and youth innovation funds to expand reach and effectiveness.[4]
Mission and objectives
The stated mission of iSafe BD is to make children and teenagers safer in both digital and physical environments. Objectives include:
- Operating a Children Missing Alert System for rapid community notifications.
- Providing confidential cyberbullying report and support mechanisms.
- Connecting teenagers with mental health resources and trained counsellors.
- Partnering with schools, local authorities, and NGOs for awareness, prevention, and response.
Features
(Features list unchanged...)
Safety and compliance
iSafe BD states it complies with relevant Bangladeshi digital safety and child-protection guidelines.[5] The platform emphasises privacy safeguards to protect the identity of minors and describes procedures for referral to law enforcement for malicious or false reports.[6]
Outreach and campaigns
Project outreach has included cyber-awareness seminars in schools and colleges, social-media awareness campaigns and contests, youth ambassador programmes, and collaborations with universities and local youth groups.[7]
Reception and impact
While the platform is an emerging initiative, community leaders, youth organisations, and local administrators have acknowledged the app's potential role in strengthening child protection and responding more quickly to missing-child incidents and online harassment reports.[8][9]
Challenges
iSafe BD faces challenges common to rapid-response platforms, including the risk of false reporting, limited internet access in some rural areas, the need for stronger institutional partnerships (such as with law enforcement), and the demand for continuous moderation and data-privacy maintenance.[10][11]
