Frank Steenhuisen is a South African-born safari guide, wildlife photographer, and co-founder of SAFARI FRANK, a safari travel company. He is known for his expertise in Big Five savanna environments and specializes in photographic and birding safaris across Africa.[1]
Early Life and Background
Frank was born in Pretoria, South Africa. As a child, he spent considerable time in the wilderness, particularly the Greater Kruger National Park, which sparked his lifelong passion for wildlife and the African bush. At age 12, he moved to Australia with his family. Despite moving away, he maintained a strong connection to Africa, regularly travelling back.
Career
After finishing his schooling, Frank returned to South Africa to undertake an intensive safari guide training program. It was during this period he met Gesa (his partner) with whom he shares many adventures. He has more than two decades of experience as a safari guide in Big Five terrain. Frank specializes in photographic safaris and birding safaris. He has worked and guided in several African countries.[2]
SAFARI FRANK
Frank is a co-founder of SAFARI FRANK, a family-run business founded by members of the Steenhuisen family. Within the SAFARI FRANK team, his title includes Safari Guide and Safari Planner, and he is considered the company’s resident wildlife photography expert. He contributes content (blog posts) for the company, especially on safari photography, conservation, and wildlife.
Personal Life
Frank is part of the Steenhuisen family: his parents are Johan and Welna; his siblings include Karin. The family has been involved in SAFARI FRANK, bringing together their love of Africa and safari lifestyle. His partner, Gesa, is also deeply involved, especially in photography and content creation.
