Early Life
Emily Cross, the creative force behind Cross Record, started her musical journey in Austin, Texas. Initially pursuing visual art, she transitioned into music, blending her artistic vision with her sonic explorations. Her early works were marked by a focus on minimalism, intimate storytelling, and ambient soundscapes.
Career
Cross Record debuted with *Be Good* (2012), which introduced Emily Cross's unique experimental style to the indie music scene. In 2016, she released *Wabi-Sabi*, inspired by Japanese aesthetics and the concept of finding beauty in imperfection. The album was widely praised and solidified her place in experimental music.
Emily's creative pursuits also extended to *Loma*, a collaborative project with Dan Duszynski and Jonathan Meiburg (of Shearwater). Together, they released two critically acclaimed albums, *Loma* (2018) and *Don't Shy Away* (2020).
In 2019, Cross Record released its self-titled album, marking a period of significant growth. Emily relocated to the UK and began writing *Crush Me*, her latest album, released in 2025. The lead single, *Charred Grass*, showcases her ability to blend sparse instrumentation with deeply personal themes.
Personal Life
Emily Cross is not only a musician but also a visual artist and death doula. Her experiences with mortality and human connection deeply inform her work. She uses her platform to explore themes of life, loss, and transformation, creating music that resonates on a profound level.
