Ealing Art College

From WikiGenius

Ealing Art College (formally known as Ealing Technical College & School of Art) was a further education institution located on St Mary's Road in Ealing, London, England. The site now serves as the Ealing campus of the University of West London.

The college was particularly noted for its School of Art, which during the early 1960s comprised departments in Fashion, Graphics, Industrial Design, Photography, and Fine Art. It attracted a number of notable students who later achieved fame, including musicians Freddie Mercury, Ronnie Wood, and Pete Townshend, as well as Academy Award-winning illustrator and conceptual designer Alan Lee[1][2].

In the 1960s, the college offered External University of London degree programmes. These included a BA degree and a BSc in Economics with specialisations in subjects such as Geography, Economics, and Law. These courses drew a diverse body of both British and international students, as well as lecturers from various University of London colleges.

Additionally, the college housed a School of Liberal Arts, which provided secretarial and undergraduate language courses in French, Spanish, German, and Russian. A distinctive feature of its language programme was a semester spent at L'école d'interprètes at the University of Geneva. This innovative approach to language education was considered groundbreaking at the time.
