Jason T. Kocher (born May 1982) is an American electrical engineer, entrepreneur, content creator, and artificial intelligence developer based in Chardon, Ohio. He is known for founding multiple engineering ventures—including Kocher Micro, Inc., Aqua Engineering, and Beryl CNC—and for producing science, technology, and engineering content on social media under the handle @i2c_jason, where he has amassed nearly 94,000 Instagram followers.

Early life and education

Kocher grew up in Ohio and pursued a degree in electrical engineering at Pennsylvania State University's Erie campus. During his studies he conducted several independent, funded research projects and mentored incoming freshmen students through the IEEE Freshmen Engineering Mentor program. In his final year of undergraduate study he founded Kocher Micro, Inc., launching his entrepreneurial career while still enrolled.[1]

Career

Kocher Micro, Inc.

Kocher Micro was established during Kocher's last year at Penn State Erie. The company offered contract electronics design services, with Kocher serving as president and lead electrical engineer. Capabilities spanned microcontroller firmware, printed circuit board (PCB) layout and population, touch-screen LCD GUI development, enclosure design, CNC machining, 3D printing, and silicone casting.[2]

Aqua Engineering

Kocher later founded Aqua Engineering, LLC, headquartered in Mentor, Ohio. The firm focuses on solving complex engineering challenges for new products and industrial automation, offering services such as electronics design, Raspberry Pi and LTE connectivity integration, GRBL-based G-code CNC projects, and general rapid prototyping.[1][3]

Beryl CNC

Beryl CNC specializes in the design and manufacture of innovative upgrade kits for manual lathe machines, enabling operators to introduce digital manufacturing workflows to an untrained workforce without modifying the base machine. The company's stated goals include increasing productivity and supporting domestic manufacturing. Beryl CNC is based in Mentor, Ohio, and Kocher serves as its founder.[3][1]

Entrepreneurial leadership

Kocher later joined Bowling Green State University as Director of the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, supporting student and community entrepreneurship initiatives in northwest Ohio.[1]

Content creation

Under the handle @i2c_jason — a reference to the I²C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) serial communication protocol widely used in embedded electronics — Kocher produces short-form educational content on platforms including Instagram and TikTok. His content covers topics such as:

  • PCB design using KiCad
  • Microcontroller programming (e.g., ATtiny85 with Arduino IDE)
  • Generative artificial intelligence and large language model applications
  • Industrial communication protocols (e.g., MQTT, Time-Sensitive Networking)
  • DIY electronics, spot welding, and fabrication techniques

As of early 2026, his Instagram account (@i2c_jason) lists approximately 426 posts and nearly 93,900 followers.[4]

Technical expertise

Kocher's documented technical skill set spans both hardware and software domains:

Hardware
PCB layout and rework, PIC and AVR microcontrollers, LTE/wireless module integration, silicone molding, precision CNC machining, turret lathe operation, laser cutting, and weldments.
Software & protocols
Arduino IDE, GRBL G-code, KiCad, MQTT, I²C, Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), and AI/machine learning application development.
